On February 10, Aspen Germany hosted a Brown Bag Lunch on “The Ukrainian-Russian Border Conflict: What If…?” with Dr. Stefan Meister, Program Director International Order and Democracy, DGAP. The event marked the launch of a new Global Threat Series.
In light of the deployment of some 100,000 Russian soldiers on the border of eastern Ukraine, international concerns of a renewed escalation between Ukraine and Russia are steadily growing. The U.S. fears that Russia will soon make a new attempt to attack Ukraine’s territorial integrity. While Russia rejects the accusations, the U.S. is threatening the Kremlin with devastating sanctions. So far, Germany has relied on dialogue, but how will it confront Russia in the event of military escalation? What does further aggression on the part of the Kremlin mean for the security and stability of Ukraine, as well as for EU and NATO member states? We discussed these and many other questions in a small group of our members with Dr. Stefan Meister as an expert. Dr. Stormy Mildner, Executive Director of Aspen Germany, moderated the informal discussion.
As part of the Global Threats Series, we interviewed Dr. Stefan Meister about the Ukrainian-Russian border conflict. The interview can be watched on Youtube.
