On February 21, 2024, Aspen Germany hosted the fourth virtual meeting of its Laboratories of Democracy Initiative for the participating U.S. state legislators and German Landtagsabgeordnete entitled “Canada 101 – Federalism and Provincial Governance in Canada“. Petra Dolata, Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, Canada, joined the meeting as an expert and speaker. Prof. Dr. Dolatas presentation and the subsequent joint exchange addressed governance in Canada at the federal, provincial/territorial and local level to lay the foundation for all upcoming discussions in this project. It gave the twenty U.S. state legislators and German Landtagsabgeordnete the opportunity to learn more about the Canadian political system and the distribution of power and responsibilities. With regard to the focus topic of the third round of exchanges, a special emphasis was placed on critical infrastructure.
The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany, funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
