From December 6-8, 2023, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted a study trip in the framework of the project “Disinformation and the Role of Social Media Influencers in Times of Crises, Conflicts, and Wars”. The project brought together seventeen social media influencers and content creators from Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia with other actors to discuss their role in democratic societies in times of conflict. Over the course of 2023, a selected group of influencers and content creators exchanged lessons learned, met with academics, experts, and decision-makers, and discussed mechanisms of disinformation online and how to counter them. Participants worked together on recommendations to be presented to policymakers, social media platforms, and civil society organizations.
In Prague, the participating influencers and content creators met for the final event of the project, hosted by the Aspen Institute Central Europe. The meeting focused on exchanges with relevant stakeholders from the region, collecting best practices, and preparing the results for the final report with recommendations to be presented to policymakers, social media platforms, and civil society organizations in 2024.
More information on the project can be found here.
The project is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. We thank the Aspen Institute Central Europe, the Aspen Institute Kyiv, and the Aspen Institute Romania for their support.
