On December 19th, the Aspen Institute Germany invited three guest lecturers from the John-F.-Kennedy-Institute for North American Studies at the Free University Berlin to discuss the mechanisms and tools of the Trump Administration in an intimate setting with the German alumni from the Aspen’s Bundestag and US Congress Staffers Exchange Program. The alumni had the chance to exchange their views with Vincent Michelot, Professor for American Politics at Sciences Po, Lyon, Markus B. Siewert, Academic Fellow at the Department of Social Sciences at the Free University, and Justin S. Vaughn, Director of the Center for Idaho History and Politics at Boise State University. In a lively discussion moderated by Mirijam Koch, Program Officer at the Aspen Institute Germany, the participants talked about the state of the Trump administration, the possible fragmentation of the Republican Party, the differences and similarities to French President Macron, and the long-term political consequences the Trump Presidency can have on the US governmental system.
