Transatlantic Agriculture Dialogue Tour – Breakfast Roundtable: Transatlantic Perspectives on Fostering a Culture of Innovation in Agriculture

    • November 15, 2023

    • November 15, 2023

The Transatlantic Agriculture Dialogue Tour is a strategic dialogue format on agriculture that brings U.S. agricultural stakeholders to Germany to provide new impetus to the national discourses of both countries. Strengthening mutual transatlantic understanding and promoting knowledge transfer in and around agriculture are at the heart of the project.
Innovation is at the heart of the agricultural sector. The sector is increasingly characterized by technological advances that improve efficiency, sustainability and productivity – from artificial intelligence and robotics to smart irrigation systems and biotechnology. Farmers are constantly optimizing their processes and experimenting with new approaches. However, challenges such as high initial costs, lack of information and education, gaps in infrastructure, privacy and security concerns, and regulatory barriers can hinder progress. Achieving the overarching goals of sustainable food security, environmental protection, and economic viability of farming communities depends on fostering a robust culture of innovation in agriculture. What is the full extent of innovation in agriculture that goes beyond a purely technological understanding? What policy frameworks best support innovation in agriculture? What barriers do farmers face to innovation? How can all stakeholders help build a culture of innovation, and what does it look like in practice?
To answer these questions, we will take a transatlantic perspective to compare and learn from different policy and practice approaches to promoting innovation in Europe and the United States. The discussion will bring together the U.S. delegation to the Transatlantic Agriculture Dialogue Tour with German representatives from policy, business/start-up, research and practice.
Partners of the Transatlantic Agriculture Dialogue Tour are: Bayer AG; the German Agricultural Society (DLG); Agritechnica 2023; DIN e.V.; Klim GmbH; and Agrargenossenschaft Trebbin eG.
