On April 13, 2023, participants in the U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture project will meet for a virtual session to share best practices and innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture. The project brings together eight German and eight U.S. farmers, and other agricultural stakeholders, to promote innovative solutions for a sustainable future for agriculture and rural areas. The project also aims to strengthen the transatlantic relationship through collaborative exchanges in rural areas and the agricultural sector as a whole. The first cohort involves participants working in arable agriculture in eastern Germany and the Corn Belt in the U.S. Midwest. In addition to virtual meetings, this year’s cohort will meet in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, June 27-July 1, 2023. At this meeting, participants will discuss solutions for practice and policy and transatlantic collaboration opportunities, visit best practices on the ground, and engage in conversations with local representatives from policy, business, and academia. This exchange is dedicated to the core topic of climate and agriculture. The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
