On February 5, 2024, an introductory virtual meeting for participants in the 2024 U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture will take place. The Aspen Institute Germany and project partner, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will welcome the sixteen participants of the 2024 cohort for an initial virtual meeting. As part of the project, the Institute is bringing together eight German and eight U.S. farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to promote innovative approaches to sustainable agricultural and rural areas and strengthen the transatlantic relationship overall. The second cohort involves participants working in the beef and dairy sector in northern Germany and the U.S. East Coast. In addition to virtual meetings, this year’s cohort will meet in Kiel, Germany, May 13-17, 2024. At this meeting, participants will discuss solutions for practice and policy, as well as transatlantic collaboration opportunities, visit best practices on the ground, and engage in exchanges with local representatives from policy, business, and academia. This exchange is dedicated to the core topic of the digital transformation of beef and dairy farming. First challenges and solutions to this topic as well as individual expectations will be shared and discussed by the participants at the first virtual meeting. The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
