From June 27 to July 1, 2023, the in-person meeting of this year’s cohort of the U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture project took place in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Over two years, the project will bring together a group of German and U.S. farmers and other stakeholders for in-person and virtual meetings. The goal of the project is to promote innovative solutions for a sustainable future for agriculture and rural areas. The project also aims to strengthen the transatlantic relationship through exchanges in rural areas and the agricultural sector as a whole. The first cohort involves participants working in arable agriculture in eastern Germany and the Corn Belt in the American Midwest. During the visit in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, participants will discuss solutions for practice and policy and transatlantic collaboration opportunities, tour best practices on the ground, and interact with local representatives from government, business, and academia. The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
