    • February 28, 2023

On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, the virtual kick-off event for this year’s U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture project will take place. The Aspen Institute Germany and project partner, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will welcome the sixteen participants of the 2023 cohort for a first virtual meeting. As part of the project, the Institute is bringing together eight German and eight U.S. farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to promote innovative approaches to sustainable agricultural and rural areas and strengthen the transatlantic relationship overall. The first cohort involves participants working in arable agriculture in eastern Germany and the Corn Belt in the U.S. Midwest. In addition to virtual meetings, this year’s cohort will meet in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, June 27-July 1, 2023. At this meeting, participants will discuss solutions for practice and policy, as well as transatlantic collaboration opportunities, visit best practices on the ground, and engage in exchanges with local representatives from policy, business, and academia. This exchange is dedicated to the core topic of climate and agriculture. First challenges and solutions to this topic as well as individual expectations will be shared and discussed by the participants at the first virtual meeting. The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
