On April 20, 2020, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted a virtual discussion on the topic “Covering Trump and the 2020 Election: Journalists’ Challenges on the Campaign Trail“ with Matt Karnitschnig, Chief Europe Correspondent at POLITICO. Given current restrictions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, our event series “Road to Election Night 2020” continued virtually on Zoom. At Aspen Germany, it remains our prime concern to provide opportunities for in-depth discussion en route to the 2020 election. In a conversation with Rüdiger Lentz, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany, Matt Karnitschnig discussed current developments on the campaign trail leading up to November’s consequential U.S. presidential election. The discussion touched on a range of topics, including the risks for Trump’s reelection chances given the current pandemic as well as the immediate threat of an economic crisis in the United States. Repercussion of those developments on President Trump, the Democratic front-runner Joe Biden, their respective campaigns, and key events were further addressed.
The recorded event is available on our YouTube channel.
