Willy Brandt Award for Contemporary History

    • April 10, 2018

On April 10, 2018, the Aspen Institute Germany, the Allied Museum Berlin, and the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation hosted the presentation of the Willy Brandt Award for Contemporary History. The Willy Brandt Award for Contemporary History is awarded every two years by the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation for outstanding academic work. This year’s awardee was the German-American historian Dr. Scott Kause, Fellow at the Center for Contemporary History Potsdam. He received the award for his thesis “Outpost of Freedom,” in which Shepard Stone, founder of the Aspen Institute Germany, plays a prominent role. Wolfgang Thierse, former President of the German Bundestag and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Willy Brandt Foundation, presented the award to Dr. Scott Krause after welcome remarks by Jürgen Lillteicher, Director of the Allied Museum Berlin, and Rüdiger Lentz, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany. The laudation was held by the historian Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kocka.
