East German Economy Forum 2024
Last weekend, on June 2nd, our Executive Director Stormy-Annika Mildner attended the annual OWF – Ostdeutsches Wirtschaftsforum conference at the Theater am See in Bad Saarow.
Stormy-Annika Mildner had the honor of moderating a pivotal panel discussion titled “Germany and Lithuania: European Economy in Times of Geopolitical Conflict.” With 2024 marking the 20th anniversary of Lithuania and other Eastern European countries joining the EU, and with the European Parliament elections just days away, the discussion brought together Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. They reflected on the past and future of the EU, addressing economic development and the pressing challenges of digitalization, the energy transition, climate change, and geopolitical tensions. One of the key questions posed was, “Is the European Union equipped to handle the changing geopolitical and geo-economic landscape?”
