One day after the 2022 U.S. midterm elections, Aspen Germany hosted a virtual International Press Luncheon on Wednesday, November 9th, from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. CET / 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. EST.
Whether it’s gun laws, the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, the looming return of Donald Trump in 2024 or Russia proceeding with its brutal war in Ukraine, endangering European security. Times are far from easy for U.S. President Joe Biden.
Democrats are in danger of losing their slim majority in both chambers, making it even more difficult for Biden to lead the country. All this leaves the transatlantic partners worried, how reliable the U.S. really is. Is the transatlantic security partnership severely in danger? Will Europe be able to rely on the U.S. to defend endangered democratic values together? Together with Alistair Dawber, Washington Correspondent for The Times & The Sunday Times (UK), Steven Erlanger, Chief Diplomatic Correspondent in Europe of The New York Times (USA), Rieke Havertz, U.S. Correspondent for DIE ZEIT (Germany) and Paolo Mastrolilli, U.S. Bureau Chief for La Repubblica (Italy), we discussed the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections. Executive Director of Aspen Germany, Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, moderated the panel.
