On April 20, 2022, Aspen Germany hosted the second virtual meeting for the participating U.S-American state legislators of its Laboratories of Democracy Initiative and welcomed Dr. Dörte Ohlhorst, Research Fellow, Institute for Environmental and Climate Policy, Bavarian School of Public Policy, Technical University of Munich, as an expert and speaker. Dr. Ohlhorst’s presentation and the subsequent joint exchange addressed governance in Germany at the federal, state, and local level to lay the foundation for all upcoming discussions in this project. It gave the seven parliamentarians from the United States the opportunity to learn more about the German political system and the distribution of power and responsibilities. With regard to the focus topic of the second round of exchanges, a special emphasis was placed on climate and energy policy.
The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany, funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
